Purpose
To ensure Up Side Down Dance Academy (USDD Academy) recruits and retains staff, freelancers and volunteers who are suitable to work with children and young people.
Required Checks Before Engagement
- Enhanced DBS check (with Children's Barred List where applicable).
- Two professional references — one from most recent role involving children.
- Verification of identity and right to work in the UK.
- Verified qualifications, insurance and (where relevant) public liability cover for freelancers.
- Signed acceptance of all USDD codes of conduct and safeguarding policies.
Induction
All new staff complete safeguarding induction, fire safety briefing and first aid awareness within their first month and receive a copy of all policies.
Ongoing Review
DBS checks are renewed in line with statutory guidance. References and qualifications are re-verified for long-term engagements at least every three years.
Review & Contact
This policy is owned by USDD Networks (the legal entity operating Up Side Down Dance Academy (USDD Academy)) and reviewed at least annually, or sooner if legislation, statutory guidance or organisational structure changes. Reviewed annually · Last review: May 2026.
